General Information
Purpose: |
It is a single payment financial benefit, which aims to partially compensate for the increased costs for families that arise from the simultaneous birth or adoption of two or more children. |

Originators: |
The children born or adopted in a multiple birth or multiple adoption, as long as the number of children born or adopted is greater than or equal to two (if any of them have been affected by a degree of disability greater than or equal to 33%, the amount calculated will be double) and the birth or the formalisation of the adoption took place in Spain. |
Beneficiaries: |
The parents or adoptive parents who fulfil the requirements. If the parents or adoptive parents live together, either one can be the beneficiary by mutual agreement; if there is no agreement, it will be the mother. If the parents are not living together, the recipient will be the one who has the charge and custody of the child. If children become orphans of both parents or adoptive parents, or are abandoned, the beneficiary will be the person who has legal custody of them. |

Amounts / Payments / Sums: |
Depending on whether the number of children born or adopted is 2, 3, or 4 or over, the amount of the financial benefit will be the product of multiplying the monthly amount of the SMI by 4, 8 or 12. The benefit will be paid as a single payment. |

The maximum period of time for issuing a decision and notifying the interested party is 45 days. |
Refusal / Expiry: |
The right to the acknowledgement of the benefit expires 5 years after the day following the multiple birth or adoption. |

Documentation: |
The documents required to prove the identity and the circumstances determining the entitlement. In no case must the applicant accredit facts, data or circumstances that the Social Security Office should be aware of itself. |
Where to process it: |
The application and the required documentation can be submitted through the Social Security electronic office (https://sede.seg-social.gob.es), by ordinary mail or at a Social Security Assistance and Information Centre (CAISS). |
Competent body: |
The processing and acknowledgement of the economic allocation is the responsibility of the National Institute of the Social Security (INSS). |
