On 23/04/20, Resolution of 21 April 2020 of the Social Marine Institute updating certain measures in relation to specific services and benefits for the maritime-fishing sector due to COVID-19 was published in Official State Gazette (BOE) no. 113. The resolution comes into force from the time of publication. It repeals the resolution previously published in BOE 19/03/20, and updates the measures adopted due to COVID-19 with regard to the validity of specific health training Certificates, revision of mandatory on-board first aid kit Certificates and medical Certificates of fitness for seafarers.

The ISM's Preventive Health Programme includes a range of preventive actions to improve the health of the population before the disease process occurs, and reduce occupational risk factors for sea workers when at sea or in foreign ports.
The basic actions of the Maritime Health Care Programme at the preventive level are as follows:
Epidemiological studies
The information gathered during the medical examinations for sea service is used to design and run preventive health advertising campaigns.
Health outreach, health promotion and prevention campaigns.

They constitute the fourth link in the preventive action carried out by the provincial and local health at sea centres( Social Marine Institute provincial and local directorates ). The aim is to influence the health knowledge of workers, involving them as an element responsible for their health and providing the necessary means to prevent the appearance of the pathologies with the highest effect in that population.
The following campaigns, among others, are worth mentioning:
- Prevention of sexually transmitted diseases, especially AIDS.
- Malaria prevention.
- Prevention of drug addiction.
- Prevention of occupational risks in the sector.
- Accident prevention on board.
- Risk prevention on deck.
- Mental health campaign.
- First aid on board.
- Smoking Prevention.
- On Board Physical Exercise Benefit.

Immunisation Campaigns.
Vaccination campaigns are implemented through the Maritime Health Care Centres, located in the Provincial Directorates and Local Offices of the ISM, either working independently or with other Public Health Organisations.
In addition, many Maritime Health Care Centres carry out important preventive work by running national, provincial and local vaccination campaigns against particularly serious diseases such as tetanus, influenza and hepatitis B.
