General Social Services are the services in which the Social Marine Institute acts in coordination with the general network of Public Social Services, and they comprise the following programmes:
- Information and Assessment Programme:
- The aim of this programme is to provide information, guidance and advice on all issues related to social welfare, for both public networks and the Social Marine Institute, processing or referring submitted applications as appropriate.
- The programme also permits assessment of current social problems based on the analysis of the applications received and the actions taken by social workers.
- Community Participation and Sector Action Programme:
- The main aim of this programme is the integration of the sea fishing sector with its surrounding community and the general public, by promoting volunteering and participation in socio-cultural activities as a means of raising awareness about the importance of their role in solving both their individual and group problems, and encouraging voluntary work in the community.
- The programme is complemented by actions in the following sectors of the population:
- Pensioners: the Social Marine Institute concentrates its efforts on supporting and promoting pensioner clubs and associations that have own statutes stipulating their organisation, management and independent operation.
