Purpose	Train participants to master the following skills: Keeping a watch in line with the responsibilities of a sailor forming part of the watch keeping detail in the machine room. Understanding orders and making themselves understood in everything to do with the responsibilities of watch keeping. Keeping boiler watch detail: maintaining correct steam pressures and water levels. Starting up emergency equipment and applying emergency procedures.

The use hand tools and electrical and electronic measuring equipment for troubleshooting, maintenance and repair operations. To contribute to on-board maintenance and repairs. To contribute to the maintenance and repair of on-board electrical systems and equipment. To contribute to the handling of supplies. To take precautions and contribute to the prevention of pollution of the marine environment. To apply occupational health and safety procedures.

Purpose	To train students for to acquire the knowledge, understanding and proficiency, at operational and management level, necessary for the safe control and management of high voltage shipboard systems, in accordance with the modifications introduced by the Manila Amendments to the STCWCode, which establish the minimum training for the corresponding certificates of competency.
Requirements	Professional Qualification/Certificate: To be in possession of the merchant navy professional card of chief engineer officer, first or second engineer officer, senior marine mechanic, marine mechanic or electro-technical officer of the merchant navy. Academic Qualification. To hold an academic qualification leading to the professional title of merchant navy chief engineer officer, first or second engineer officer, senior naval mechanic, naval mechanic or merchant navy electro-technical officer. Other Requirements.
