Purpose

Train participants to master the following skills:

  • Steering the ship and also following orders given to the helmsman in English.
  • Maintaining proper lookout service using sight and hearing.
  • Contributing to surveillance and control when keeping watch.
  • Using emergency equipment and applying emergency procedures.
Requirements
  • Professional Certificate/Qualification:
    • Basic Training Certificate or Basic Safety Training Certificate.
  • Other requirements:
    • At least one of the following when submitting the application
      • Statement of compliance indicating the applicant does not suffer from any physical or mental illness preventing them from undertaking the training requested, or
      • Valid medical Certificate certifying that the applicant is not suffering from any physical or mental illness preventing them from undertaking the training requested, or
      • Valid medical Certificate indicating that the applicant is fit for work on marine vessels.
    • At least one of the following when preselected for the course, if applicable, and for its entire duration
      • Valid medical Certificate certifying that the applicant is not suffering from any physical or mental illness preventing them from undertaking the training requested, or
      • Valid medical Certificate indicating that the applicant is fit for work on marine vessels.

Purpose

Train participants to master the following skills:

  • Keeping a watch in line with the responsibilities of a sailor forming part of the watch keeping detail in the machine room.
  • Understanding orders and making themselves understood in everything to do with the responsibilities of watch keeping.
  • Keeping boiler watch detail: maintaining correct steam pressures and water levels.
  • Starting up emergency equipment and applying emergency procedures.

  • Professional Certificate/Qualification:         
    • Basic Training Certificate or Basic Safety Training Certificate.
  • Other requirements:
    • At least one of the following when submitting the application

Purpose

Train participants to master the following skills:

  • Identify, define and draw a diagram of the most commonly used elements in refrigeration plants.
  • Understand the main parts of mechanical components, being able to take part in operations to change oil or replace broken components.
  • Understand the composition and operation of mechanical compression refrigeration facilities, completing start-up and shutdown sequences.
  • Assemble and  maintain cooling facilities.
  • Identify critical operating parameters to determine correct operation.
  • Identify the most common failures.
Requirements
  • Professional Certificate/Qualification:
    • Basic training certificate or Basic safety training certificate or Registration in REM for land activity.
  • Additional training:
  • Accredit knowledge of refrigeration facilities by at least one of the following methods:
    • Standard course on refrigeration facilities.
    • Work experience (6 months) with refrigeration installations.
    • A Certificate of Studies from an Official school that includes and specifies knowledge of refrigeration facilities.
  • Other requirements:
    • At least one of the following when submitting the application
      • Statement of compliance indicating the applicant does not suffer from any physical or mental illness preventing them from undertaking the training requested, or
      • Valid medical Certificate certifying that the applicant is not suffering from any physical or mental illness preventing them from undertaking the training requested, or

Purpose

Train participants to master the following skills:

  • Planning and directing a coastal voyage and determining the situation.

  • Keeping a navigational watch safely.

  • Overseeing compliance with legal obligations.

  • Steering the ship and starting up the propulsion machinery on small vessels.

  • Maintaining the ship's stability and navigability.

  • Overseeing cargo loading, stowing, fastening down and unloading and maintaining due care during the voyage.

  • Measures in the event of an emergency. Response to distress signals at sea.

  • Prevention, control and fighting against fires on board.

  • Starting up rescue devices.

  • Ensuring compliance with pollution prevention requirements.

  • Contributing to the safety of the crew and vessel.

  • Providing first aid on board.

Requirements
  • Professional Qualification/Certificate:

    • A professional qualification is not required.
    • Merchant Navy Engine Rating Proficiency Certificate
    • Merchant Navy Engine Rating  Certificate
  • Other requirements.

  • Safe use of electrical equipment.

  • To contribute to the monitoring of the functioning of electrical systems and equipment.

  • The use hand tools and electrical and electronic measuring equipment for troubleshooting, maintenance and repair operations.

  • To contribute to on-board maintenance and repairs.

  • To contribute to the maintenance and repair of on-board electrical systems and equipment.

  • To contribute to the handling of supplies.

  • To take precautions and contribute to the prevention of pollution of the marine environment.

  • To apply occupational health and safety procedures.

Requirements
  • Professional Qualification/Certificate.              

    • Certificate of  Basic Security Training.
  • Other requirements.

At least one of the following when submitting the application:

  • Statement of compliance indicating the applicant does not suffer from any physical or mental illness preventing them from undertaking the training requested, or
