Understanding orders and making themselves understood in everything to do with the responsibilities of watch keeping. Keeping boiler watch detail: maintaining correct steam pressures and water levels. Starting up emergency equipment and applying emergency procedures.

Requirements	Professional Qualification/Certificate: To be in possession of the merchant navy professional card of chief engineer officer, first or second engineer officer, senior marine mechanic, marine mechanic or electro-technical officer of the merchant navy. Academic Qualification. To hold an academic qualification leading to the professional title of merchant navy chief engineer officer, first or second engineer officer, senior naval mechanic, naval mechanic or merchant navy electro-technical officer. Other Requirements.
