The Social Marine Institute reserves the right to increase or reduce the number and type of courses included in the 2024 Training Plan if the circumstances make this necessary and justifiable to do so and could not have been foreseen at the time of preparing and approving the Training Plan.

The data relating to the number of teaching hours and number of places available (number of students) and assigned for each course included in the 2024 Training Plan are for guidance purposes only, and the requirements to access the training actions may be amended by the Social Marine Institute,  in which case accreditation of the new requirements may be requested before moving to the pre-selection phase.

The delivery dates of the courses included in this Training Plan will be adapted to suit seafarers' needs and availability.
People interested in applying for one of these courses can go to the provincial or local directorate of the Social Marine Institute closest to their place of residence where they will be informed of the dates of the various editions of each type of course.

In general, the training actions provided by the ISM will be carried out as close as possible to the place of residence of its beneficiaries.
Attendance on the courses (teaching) included in the annual plans of the ISM will not entail any expenses for the beneficiaries.
With regard to the travel, accommodation and subsistence expenses incurred by the student who has completed the training course or who, for justified reasons, has not been able to start it or has had to abandon it, the ISM will assume the following expenses under the terms regulated in Articles 27, 28 and 29 of Royal Decree 292/2018 of 18 May and in Article 4 of Order TMS/693/2018 of 28 June:

a) Travel and sustenance expenses when the distance between the place of residence of the student and the place where the training centre is located is 30 kilometres or more.

b) Travel, sustenance and lodging expenses when the distance between the place of residence of the student and the place where the training centre is located is 50 kilometres or more.

Before confirming their attendance to the training actions by the Social Marine Institute, students attending these actions must be aware of their rights and obligations (Article 14 of Royal Decree 292/2018 of 18 May), as well as:

• The effects that would be applicable to them in the event of non-compliance with Article 16 of the Royal Decree.
• The disciplinary measures that would be applied to them for infractions of the rules of cohabitation during the training actions that are developed both in-house, contracted, through commissions to their own personal means or by any other means provided for in current legislation, or during their stay in the residences of the National Training Centres of the ISM and Provincial Directorates (Articles 18 to 26 of Royal Decree 292/2018 of 18 May).

The selection of course attendees will be made in accordance with the terms established in Article 12 of Royal Decree 292/2018 of 18 May, following the procedure of its Article 13.

 Interested parties must formalise an application, valid throughout the national territory and for a period to be determined, duly completed and signed for each type of course, using the current official form, which may be obtained directly from the provincial or local offices of the Social Marine Institute or downloaded from this website,(application) in the terms established in articles 9 and 10 of Royal Decree 292/2018, of 18 May,  which regulate the procedure for access and the scheme for providing maritime and health professional training of the Social Marine Institute, and  Order TMS/693/2018, of 28 June, which implements Royal Decree 292/2018, providing the documentation contained in the aforementioned regulations.

Each applicant for maritime and health professional training of the Social Marine Institute may submit and keep in force a maximum of five applications.

Applications may be submitted:

• At any provincial and local office of the ISM.
• Through the Electronic Office of the State Secretariat for Social Security.
• Any place established in Article 16.4 of Law 39/2015 of 1 October on the Common Administrative Procedure for Public Administrations.

To guide and manage access to maritime and healthcare vocational training, the Social Marine Institute has an extensive office network to serve the public at the provincial and local directorates, where qualified technical personnel will provide the necessary information and advice.

In addition to meeting the condition of beneficiary on application submission date, the requirements demanded by the Social Marine Institute to access the type of course applied for must also be accredited on that date.

Maritime and healthcare vocational training is open to:

• Spanish workers or nationals of a member state of the European Union or of the European Economic Area who reside in Spain and foreigners with a valid work and residence permit, who are affiliated and in a situation of registration or similar to registration, including intermittent-permanent workers, in the Social Security Special Scheme for Seafarers at the time the application is submitted.
• Applicants for an ISM course, not included in the previous section, who at the time of submitting the application are applicants for an occupation in the maritime fishing sector.
