Health care for sea workers, pensioners and their beneficiaries, is provided within the national territory by the Social Marine Institute (ISM)  in partnership with the Health Services of the respective Autonomous Communities. It is fundamentally based on the traditional model and includes the following types: Primary Care, Specialised Care and Emergency Care.

The ISM undertakes its health care responsibilities in coordination with other health care services of the Public Health System.

In order to complement its own health care resources, the ISM makes agreements with Health Care Centres and Services outside the Social Security.
