What is the economic benefit for multiple birth or adoption?

This is a single-payment, non-contributory family benefit that is granted for the birth or adoption of two or more children through multiple births or adoptions.

What is the paperwork involved?

The following must be presented:

  • The appropriate application form.
  • The documentation needed to prove identity and the circumstances determining the right.

Where is it processed?

The application and documentation indicated should be submitted to any Social Security Information and Support Centre.

The acknowledgement of the right to the economic benefit is the responsibility of the National Social Security Institute (INSS).

What is the deadline for applying for the  benefit?

It can be applied for as of the day following the multiple birth or adoption.

The right to the acknowledgement of this benefit expires in five years, to be counted from the day after the birth of the child.
