Procedure for requesting the special agreement for Medical Assistance for Swiss pensioners residing is Spain

General Information


Purpose:

The purpose of this Special Agreement is to cover Health Care.

Beneficiaries:

Recipients of pensions indicated in the Swiss Federal Social Security Legislation, as long as they hold Swiss or Spanish citizenship and reside in Spain, and they have no right to health care coverage in Spain.

Documentation:
  • Identification Document.

Original or copy providing proof of:

  • Being the holder of a pension or income granted by the Swiss federal Social Security legislation.
  • Swiss nationality.
  • Having regular residence in Spain.
  • The existence of a family relationship, if they have dependent recipients.
Where to process it:

In the Provincial Office of the Social Security Treasury General or Administration corresponding to the address of the applicant. If you have a digital certificate you can access the e-Office and submit the application form and the documentation required through the online Special Agreement Registration.

Deadlines:

At any time following the transfer of residence to Spain.

Effective:

It takes effect from the date of application.

Requirements:
  • The applicant must be entitled to a pension or, when appropriate, an income granted solely by the Swiss Federal Social Security Legislation, and must hold Swiss or Spanish citizenship.
  • Certification of transfer of residence and date on which it was established in Spain.
  • In the event of dependent recipient family members, certification of kinship.
Termination:

Reasons for expiry:

  • Failure to make the payments corresponding to three consecutive or five alternative months.
  • When the holder of the right is classified as an active worker, pensioner, or beneficiary under any Spanish Social Security System Scheme. 
  • On the death of the pensioner.
  • Voluntary decision by the holder of the Agreement, duly notified in writing to the Social Security General Treasury. 
  • Ceasing to reside in Spanish territory. 
  • Losing the status of pensioner.
Other important information:

The special agreement subscriber must make a monthly payment to be determined annually by the Ministry of Employment and Social Security. Payments are made monthly and are due in the calendar month following the respective payment period.
