The death and survivors benefits are set up to compensate the financial needs of certain people, caused by the death of others.
They are included within the protective aspects of the General Scheme and the Special Schemes included in the Social Security System, with the peculiarities indicated in the respective Special Scheme for each case. The SOVI (Obligatory Ageing and Invalidity Insurance) widow's/widower's pension still exists in addition to these schemes.
