Purpose

Train participants and update the following skills:

  • Train participants in first aid.
  • Basic nursing techniques.
  • Procedure for medical consultation by radio.
Requirements

  • Professional Certificate/Qualification:
    • Hold any of the following Certificates:
      • A valid Initial Healthcare Training Certificate.
      • Valid first update certificate for Initial Healthcare Training.
      • A valid Advanced Healthcare Training Certificate.
      • Valid first update certificate for Advanced Specific Healthcare Training.
  • Other requirements:
    • At the time of submitting the application, a statement of compliance that the applicant suffers no physical or psychological condition that prevents them completing the requested training.

  • Train participants to tend to the sick or injured on board.
  • First aid and basic nursing techniques.
  • Hygiene standards.
  • Handling the boat's first aid kit.
  • Technique for medical consultation by radio.
Requirements
  • Professional Certificate/Qualification:
    • Merchant Navy Captain.
    • First Officer in the Merchant Navy.
    • Second Officer in the Merchant Navy.
    • Fishing Captain.
    • Deep-sea Skipper.
    • Coastal shipping Skipper.
    • Inshore fishing vessel Skipper.
    • Merchant Navy Chief Engine Room Officer (It is also obligatory to present the Certificate of appointment of use and maintenance of the first aid kit, issued by the Skipper or Captain).
    • Merchant Navy first Engine Room Officer (It is also obligatory to present the Certificate of appointment of use and maintenance of the first aid kit, issued by the Skipper or Captain). 
    • Merchant Navy second Engine Room Officer (It is also obligatory to present the Certificate of appointment of use and maintenance of the first aid kit, issued by the Skipper or Captain). 
    • Chief mechanic (It is also obligatory to present the Certificate of appointment of use and maintenance of the first aid kit, issued by the Skipper or Captain). 
    • Mechanic (It is also obligatory to present the Certificate of appointment of use and maintenance of the first aid kit, issued by the Skipper or Captain). 
    • Merchant Navy Deck Rating (It is also obligatory to present the Certificate of appointment of use and maintenance of the first aid kit, issued by the Skipper or Captain). 
    • Merchant Navy Engine Rating (It is also obligatory to present the Certificate of appointment of use and maintenance of the first aid kit, issued by the Skipper or Captain). 
    • Fisherman (It is also obligatory to present the Certificate of appointment of use and maintenance of the first aid kit, issued by the Skipper or Captain). 
    • Basic Training Certificate (It is also obligatory to present the Certificate of appointment of use and maintenance of the first aid kit, issued by the Skipper or Captain). 
    • Basic Safety Training Certificate (It is also obligatory to present the Certificate of appointment of use and maintenance of the first aid kit, issued by the Skipper or Captain). 
    • This course may also be taken by students who:
      • Are studying or have completed academic studies equivalent to any of the qualifications or certificates, or
      • Are taking or have completed the relevant academic or professional work experiences, even if they do not have the official qualification or certificate of the Directorate-General for the Merchant Navy.
    • These circumstances must be accredited by a certificate issued by the training centre or company, as appropriate.
  • Other requirements:
    • At the time of submitting the application, a statement of compliance that the applicant suffers no physical or psychological condition that prevents them completing the requested training.
