Welfare Unemployment Benefits (Subsidy)

An economic benefit provided for unemployed individuals who fulfil the following criteria:

• You must be registered as a job seeker for one month and not have refused any suitable job offer, nor have refused to take part in promotion, training or re-training actions without just cause.
• You must not have income of any kind that, calculated on a monthly basis, is in excess of 75% of the Minimum Professional Wage in force, excluding the proportional part of extraordinary payments.

In addition to which their situation must comply with one of the following situations that entitle them to receive this benefit payment.

• Workers that have used up their contributory unemployment benefits and have family responsibilities.
• Returning emigrant workers.
• Workers over 45 years of age who have used up their unemployment benefits and do not have family responsibilities.
• Workers over 55 years of age.
• Workers that, at the time of becoming legally unemployed, have not covered the minimum contributory period in order to qualify for a contributory benefit.
• Workers who are deemed fully capable of working or as partially disabled in a health review report following their recovery from a situation of severe disability, or absolute or total permanent disability in regard to their carrying out their customary profession.
• Ex-prisoners and inmates who have had their sentences suspended due to drug rehabilitation.

More information on amounts

• From the day following the waiting month, if any, as long as the application is filed within 15 days after the waiting month is over.
• If it is applied for after the deadline, both the entitlement to the benefit and the benefit itself begin on the date of application. .
• The special subsidy for the long-term unemployed will begin on the day after the ordinary unemployment benefit is used up.

• Identification of the applicant, spouse and dependant children included in the application, by means of original and valid documentation:
  
  
  • Spanish nationals: National Identity Document (D.N.I).
  • Foreigners with Spanish residence: For the purposes of identification: Foreigner Identity Card (FIC ) or identity document from their country of origin if they are a citizen of a country that is part of the European Economic Space or Switzerland. In all cases, the Foreigner Identification Number (NIE).
  • Family Record Book, or equivalent document in the case of foreigners.
  • Certificate of the degree of disability issued by the Institute for the Elderly and Social Service(IMSERSO ) or the appropriate body of the Autonomous Community, or the decision of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS), Ministry of Finance and the Civil Service or the Ministry of Defence which acknowledges pensioner status due to total or absolute permanent disability, serious disability, or retirement due to being permanently unfit for work or service.
  • Judicial decision or deed formalising the fostering arrangement and which contains the consent of the Public Authority in each region responsible for child protection and the effective fostering date.
  • Ruling and/or settlement agreement, in cases of separation or divorce.
    
• For other specific cases, the necessary additional documentation should be consulted.
  
• Any other documentation that, in accordance with current regulations, the Employment Office required  by the ISM centre.
