Provisional Replacement Certificate (CPS)


The Provisional Replacement Certificate (CPS) is a personal and non-transferable document that certifies the holder's entitlement to receive any necessary medically-related health care benefits during their temporary stay as a result of work, study or tourism, in the territory of the European Union, the European Economic Area and Switzerland, taking into account the type of the benefits and the duration of the stay, in accordance with the law of the relevant country.

The Provisional Replacement Certificate (CPS) is invalid when the trip has been made for the purpose of receiving medical treatment.

Certain groups will only be entitled to export health care benefits using this certificate.
It can also be requested when the trip is imminent and it is not possible to obtain the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) before the start of the trip.



Entitlement holders and their dependent beneficiaries who meet the requirements in accordance with Spanish law and European Union Social Security Regulations.

                              



By attending any of the Social Security Support and Information Centres (CAISS) in person.

Nevertheless, if it is only requested for the entitlement holder, the CPS may be obtained through the Social Security Electronic Office. You must have a Digital Certificate to access this service. This guarantees the security and confidentiality of the process.

In both cases, the CPS will be obtained immediately, by either receiving in person at the CAISS or by printing it out at home, if requested using a digital certificate over the Internet.

                              



The Provisional Replacement Certificate (CPS) is valid for a maximum period of 90 days from its start date. The start and end date will be indicated on the CPS.

It is important that before going on a trip to any country in the European Union, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, you check that the period of validity of your CPS includes the planned return date. If not, request a new CPS to guarantee your health care cover during your stay.

Countries where the Provisional Replacement Certificate is valid

Germany, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Romania, Sweden and Switzerland.
