It is a Managing Body belonging to the Ministry of Labour and Immigration, with its own legal status, that is entrusted with managing and administering economic benefits for the public from the Social Security System and recognising entitlement to health care, independently of whether the applicable legislation is national or international.

Death and survival (Widow's Pensions, Orphan's Pensions, Pensions for Family Members and Aid for Bereavement).

Family benefits (dependent children, birth of three or more children and multiple births (contributory level, and contributory and non-contributory level).

Compensation for non-disabling permanent lesions.

Economic and social benefits for toxic syndrome.

Recognising entitlement to health care.

Managing and operating the Register of Public Social Benefits.

Managing the Special Fund for Mutual Societies for civil servants in the Social Security.

In the international arena, participating as much and as far as permitted by the Ministry of Labour and Immigration in negotiating and entering into International Social Security Agreements, as well as belonging to international associations and organisations.
