General Information


Purpose:

Affiliation, terminations to affiliation and changes to details must be reported to Social Security to let them know when an employee begins working, when they cease to work and when there are any changes to the personal and employment details of workers affiliated to Social Security.

Subjects:

Self-employed workers are directly responsible for meeting the obligation to apply for their affiliation, termination to affiliation and changes to details.
If workers fail to meet this obligation the Social Security Treasury General may act on its own account.

Form:

Form TA.0521.

Where to process it:

In the corresponding Provincial Department of the Social Security Treasury General or Administration. If you have a digital certificate or username and password, you will be able to access the RETA Registration service and complete your registration.

Deadlines:

Applications for Registration:

  • 30 calendar days.

Application for Termination of Affiliation and data changes:

  •  3 calendar days.
Effective:

Affiliations:

  • Initial or successive affiliations shall be effective from the first day of the calendar month in which all the requirements are met.
  • Affiliations requested outside the regulatory period shall likewise be effective from the first day of the calendar month in which the requirements for inclusion within this Special Scheme are met, provided that the payments have been made with the corresponding surcharges and interest.

Terminations of affiliation:

  • Requests for withdrawal in the regulatory manner and period shall be effective from the first day of the month following the one in which the worker stops the work determining his/her inclusion.
  • Should the worker not request termination to their affiliation or request it in a manner and period other than the ones specified for this purpose, or should said termination to affiliation be performed automatically, the affiliation thus maintained shall be effective regarding the obligation to make contributions and the worker shall not be deemed in active contributor status regarding the right to benefits.

Other important information:

Applications for affiliation, termination of affiliation, and data changes must be signed by the self-employed worker.

Coverage of the economic benefit for temporary disability shall be mandatory as of 1 January 2008, as established in Law 20/2007 of 11 July, the Self-employed Workers' Statute, except for:

  • Self-employed workers entitled to temporary disability benefit in another Social Security System scheme in which they are also registered while they maintain their pluri-activity.
  • Workers included in the Special System for Self-Employed Agricultural workers.

When the Temporary Disability benefit is covered by Insurance the scope of the scheme's protective action may be voluntarily improved, incorporating that which corresponds to the contingencies of work-related injuries and occupational diseases.
