Temporary Widowhood Pension

You can click through to the Procedures and Formalities section to view a simplified version.

Beneficiaries

The beneficiary will be the surviving spouse or unmarried partner , when they cannot access the widow's or widower's pension because they cannot prove, respectively, that their marriage to the deceased lasted 1 year or, alternatively, because there are no children in common, or that their registration as domestic partners in any of the specific registers existing in the autonomous communities or town councils of the place of residence or their constitution by public document occurred at least 2 years before the date of death of the originator, provided that they meet the other general requirements (registration and contribution of the deceased).

Amount

The amount of the benefit is equal to that of the widow's/widower's pension to which they would have had a right and for a duration of 2 years.

Expiry

The benefit expires:

  • Because the established period of duration (2 years) elapses.
  • For the same reasons as the widow's/widower's pension.
