HEAT AND COLD THERAPY
In specific circumstances, through the medical consultation via radio, local heat or cold therapy will be recommended for certain body parts.
The first aid kit has a hot-water bottle (DRAWER 15, first aid kit A) which should be filled with hot water but bearable on skin contact (Be careful with patients with altered consciousness or reduced sensibility, as it may cause burns!). The doctor will give advice on the time and frequency of use (see picture 8-3).
The first aid kit also has an ice bag (DRAWER 15, first aid kit A) for
cases in which local
cold is recommended see picture
2-20. Alternatively, other devices may be used: frozen food bags are
very useful (such as frozen peas), which shape up to the limb or required
body par, see picture
7-46. In any case, avoid direct and prolonged ice contact with the skin,
to avoid damaging it, by placing a cloth between the cold source and the
skin.
