CHECKLIST FOR PATIENT CARE
It is important to follow a list of check ups that help us remember all
attention and care required by the patient.
- Measure the temperature, heart rate and blood
pressure (see Chapter
3 ). Should be checked at least twice daily (every four hours in severe
diseases), and results should be written down (Temperature chart, DRAWER
11, first aid kits A and B). This should always be done at the same time.
- Written register of the disease, and changes
as they occur.
- Keep the patient's diet written down, if
it is the usual diet or if, due to the disease, he has a special diet
with specific food restrictions. Check what the patient eats and note
down his appetite.
- Check and note down bowel movements daily
and if the faeces are not normal.
- Check the amount of fluids given and lost.
In specific cases the quantities will have to be measured and noted down.
- Medication which the patient requires,
indicating the times, quantity and administration route.
- If the patient has expectoration or vomiting
note down if there is any specific sign, such as blood traces, etc.
In addition, we should make sure that the patient is comfortable and that
his needs are met.
