SERIOUS DIVING ACCIDENT

Suspect SERIOUS DIVING ACCIDENT if:

What TO DO:

  • If the patient is unconscious, follow instructions on Chapter 1.1.
  • If the patient is conscious, remove the diving suit and give liquids by mouth, preferably warm.
  • Give 250 mg. (half tablet) of acetyl salicylic acid (DRAWER 3, First aid kits A, B, C and RAFTS).
  • Administer oxygen (OTHER MATERIAL OUTSIDE THE DRAWERS, First aid kits A and B). (Refer to Chapter 6.8, OTHER NURSING CARE (OXIGENOTHERAPY)).
  • Protect the victim against excessive cold or heat.
  • Evacuate urgently to closest multiple hyperbaric
    chamber. Notify them Anteriorly.
  • If airlifted, make sure the cabin pressure is kept
    similar to that of sea level.
  • Ask for MEDICAL ADVICE VIA RADIO .
  • Send all diving equipment for inspection.
