Contenido:
HEART ATTACK
Suspect a HEART ATTACK if:
- Pain or crushing sensation in the middle of the chest for at least
two minutes.
- Fear of imminent death, anxiety.
- Pain may move (radiate) to shoulders, neck, jaw or arms (refer to
picture 2-2).
- Confusion.
- Severe sweating and pallor.
- Nausea.
- Intermittent breathing.
- Weakness.

What to DO:
- If the patient is unconscious, follow instructions on Chapter
1.1.
- If conscious, reassure, place in a comfortable position in a well
ventilated environment and do not move (see picture 2-3). Undo tight
clothing.
- Administer a nitroglycerine tablet under the tongue (DRAWER 1, First
aid kits A, B and C), and repeat the dose after five minutes if the
pain is not relieved.
- Ask for MEDICAL ADVICE VIA RADIO .

What NOT TO DO:
- Do not allow them to smoke.
- Do not offer any food or drinks (including alcoholic ones).
- Do not lift the patient's legs.
STROKE (PARALYSIS)
Suspect STROKE if:
- Sudden onset, which may be followed by severe headache.
- Paralysis, loss of sensibility or weakness, most commonly on one
side of the face or body (see picture 2-4).
- One side of the face or the body is flaccid (deviated).
- Speech ability may be impaired.
- May have a low consciousness level (confusion), which may lead to
unconsciousness.
- Pupils may not be symmetrical (see picture 2-5).
- Slow breathing rate, which may resemble snoring.
- Excessive salivation.

What to DO:
- If the patient is unconscious, follow instructions on Chapter
1.1.
- If conscious, reassure the patient.
- Place in a comfortable and stable position, trying to slightly
raise head, neck and shoulders (see picture 2-6).
- Ask for MEDICAL ADVICE VIA RADIO .

What NOT TO DO:
- Make comments that may upset the patient.
- Do not give anything by mouth before the medical consultation via radio.
