Economic benefit for the birth or adoption of a third or successive children

Purpose:

This is a single payment benefit aimed at partially compensating for the increased expenses produced by the birth or adoption of a third or subsequent child in families that do not meet a given level of income.

Originators:

The third child born or adopted and any subsequent children, as long as the birth or adoption was in Spain (or abroad, when it is proved that the child was immediately received into a family unit resident in Spain), on a date before 16-11-2007.

Recipients:

The parents or adoptive parents who have, through birth or adoption, 3 or more children and fulfil the requirements.

If the parents or adoptive parents live together, either one can be the beneficiary by mutual agreement; if there is no agreement, it will be the mother. If the parents are not living together, the beneficiary will be whoever has guardianship and custody of the child.

If the child becomes an orphan of both parents or adoptive parents or is abandoned, the recipient will be the person who takes legal responsibility for the child, if this person is already responsible for two or more children.

Requirements:
  • Legally residing in Spain.
  • Not having received any annual income of any kind that exceeds the established limit . To determine the limit, the income received by the beneficiary in the year prior to the birth or adoption will be taken into account.
  • Not to be entitled to the same types of benefits in any other social protection scheme.
Amounts / Payments / Sums:

single payment for each biological or adopted child after the third, as long as the annual income does not exceed the established limit; if it does exceed this limit, but is less than the sum of the benefit amount and the limit, the amount  to be paid will be the same as the difference  between the income received and the total specified amount.  

Duration:

One time payment.

Periods:

The maximum period of time for issuing a decision and notifying the interested party is 45 days

Denial / Termination:

The right to the acknowledgement of the benefit expires 5 years after the day following the birth.

Documentation:

 The documents required to prove the identity and the circumstances determining the entitlement.

In no case whatsoever will the applicant have to prove facts, data or circumstances that the Social Security Office should be aware of itself.

Where it is to be processed:

The application and necessary documentation should be submitted to any of the Social Security Support and Information Centres.

Competent entity:

The processing and acknowledgement of the economic allocation is the responsibility of the National Institute of the Social Security (INSS). 

In the event that one of the parents is included in the Social Security scheme, the benefit will be acknowledged by that scheme.
