Social Security

Management:

• The National Social Security Office (INSS) in general.

• The Social Marine Institute (ISM), for workers included under the Special Scheme for Sea Workers. 

Payment:

• The National Institute of the Social Security (INSS) or, where appropriate, the Social Marine Institute (ISM), when the death is caused by a common disease or non-work-related injury.
• The  (INSS), when the death is caused by an occupational disease.
• The INSS or, where appropriate, the Mutual Society for Work-Related Injuries and Occupational Diseases of the Social Security, when the death is caused by a work-related injury.

In the case of pensions, payments will be made by the INSS, after the Mutual Society has established the current value of the corresponding pension.
