What is the economic benefit for the birth or adoption of a third or more children?

This is a single-payment, non-contributory family benefit that is given to persons who have three or more children as a result of births or adoptions occurring before 16-11-2007, as long as the established requirements are met. 

What is the paperwork involved?

The following must be presented:

• The appropriate application form.
• The documentation needed to prove identity and the circumstances determining the right.

Where is it processed?

The application and documentation indicated should be submitted to any Social Security Information and Support Centre.

The acknowledgement of the right to the economic benefit is the responsibility of the National Social Security Institute (INSS).

What is the deadline for applying for the benefit?

It can be applied for as of the day following the birth or adoption of the third or successive child.

The right to the acknowledgement of this benefit expires in five years, counting from the day after the birth or adoption of the child.
